Can I take a moment to brag on you? On September 8th, Forreston Grove hosted the fall stated meeting of the Presbytery of Northern Illinois (PNI). In case you’re new to Presbyterian circles, the presbytery is simply another name for all of the elders from the different churches in our denomination within our geographical region. In the case of PNI, that pretty much includes everything from Springfield to the Wisconsin state line, excluding the Chicagoland counties. In Scripture, we see in places like Acts 15 that local churches are to partner together to do what none of us can do on our own. We gather to worship as one church and we help to fund new churches and campus ministries. We examine new ministers to ensure that the Word of God is accurately and powerfully proclaimed from our pulpits. And, when necessary, we hold ministers and churches accountable if they stray from the truth.
So let me get back to the subject at hand. As we hosted presbytery on the 8th, I had the pleasure of standing by and watching the Grovers at work—with a special shout-out to our women. Coffee and refreshments were available to our guests upon their arrival, the sanctuary was decorated beautifully, and a delicious meal was set during the lunch hour. The sound system was manned and our accompanist supported hearty congregational singing during our time of worship. As your pastor, it was beautiful to watch the body of Christ joyfully at work. I can’t tell you how many of the other elders from throughout our presbytery remarked on the warm hospitality they experienced. You honored the Lord through your faithful service on a Saturday.
So thank you, Forreston Grove, for serving the wider body of Christ so wonderfully. I was, am, and continue to be grateful for the work of God in our church family. To Him be all the praise and glory!
For His Glory,
